Rangers @ Lightning Highlights 12/29/13

The Tampa Bay Lightning couldn't match the Rangers and had a 4-3 lost.

In the 1st period the game ended tied by 2-2 with goals of Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello (PPG) for the NY Rangers and #9 Tyler Johnson (PPG) and #18 Ondrej Palatfor the Lightning.

The second period was completely dominated by the Rangers that used the power plays to score twice with Chris Kreider and Benoit Pouliot.

In the last period #51 Valtteri Filppula scored and the Bolts tried really hard to tie up the game, but they couldn't. As you can see in this video, and in some others, we are having a poor puck management when playing in the defensive zone. I do understand that the team is young and it's normal to have some lack of confidence, but if the team wants to qualify for the playoffs, we can't suffer these kinds of goals.

Now the Tampa Bay Lightning has 50 points in the standings, being the 2nd place in its division. We'll face the Canucks in Vancouver on the first day of the year. The puck is slated to drop at 10 PM (USA time). In Brazil it will be about midnight. LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

O Tampa Bay Lightning não pôde se igualar aos Rangers e sofreu uma derrota de 4-3.

No primeiro período o jogo terminou empatado em 2-2 com gols de Rick Nash e Mats Zuccarello (PPG) pelos Rangers e do #9 Tyler Johnson (PPG) e #18 Ondrej Palat pelos Lightning.

O segundo período foi completamente dominado pelos Rangers que aproveitaram os Power Plays para marcar com Chris Kreider e Benoit Pouliot.

No último período o #51 Valteri Filppula marcou e os Bolts tentaram bastante conseguir o gol de empate, mas não puderam. Como vocês podem ver neste vídeo e em alguns outros, estamos tendo um domínio de puck e passes ruins quando jogamos na zona defensiva. Eu entendo que o time é jovem e é normal ter uma certa insegurança, mas se o time quiser se classificar para os playoffs, não podemos sofrer mais gols assim.

Agora o Tampa Bay Lightning tem 50 pontos na classificação, sendo o segundo colocado na sua divisão. Nós enfrentaremos os Canucks em Vancouver no primeiro dia do ano. O jogo deve começar às 10 da noite (no horário americano). No Brasil será por volta de meia-noite. LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

Canadiens @ Lightning Highlights 12/28/13

Yeah, as it was said in the last post, it was a great game! The Canadiens won the match in the shoot out in an amazingly equal game.

The first period was warm and didn't offered us much. But in the second period the teams got in the game! Both goals were scored in this period, first the Canadiens scored with Tomas Plekanec with about 5 minutes played and the Lightning tied up the match with a wrist shot by #26 Martin St. Louis with about 8 minutes to go.

In the third period and in the overtime the teams had plenty of opportunities, but the goalies held the draw and led the game into the shoot out.

With an amazing performance by Price that defended the three shots from the Bolts and with a goal of Lars Eller, the Canadiens won the game and now are only one point behind us.

Next game is today against the NY Rangers in the Tampa Bay Times Forum. LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

É, como foi dito no último post, foi um grande jogo! Os Canadiens venceram a partida no shoot out em um jogo incrivelmente igual.

O primeiro período foi morno e não nos ofereceu muita coisa. Mas no segundo período os times entraram no jogo! Ambos os gols saíram neste período, primeiro os Canadiens marcaram com Tomas Plekanec com cerca de 5 minutos a o Lightning empatou a partida com um wrist shot do #26 Martin St. Louis com cerca de 8 minutos restantes.

No terceiro peíodo e no overtime os times tiveram muitas oportunidades, mas os goleiros seguraram o empate e levaram a partida para o shoot out.

Com uma performance incrível de Price que defendeu os três tiros dos Bolts e com um gol de Lars Eller, os Canadiens venceram a partida e agora estão apenas um ponto atrás de nós.

O próximo jogo é contra o NY Rangers no Tampa Bay Times Forum. LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

Lightning @ Panthers Highlights 12/23/13

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

And I know it is indeed a merry christmas for the Lightning fans! I'm sorry for the delay of this post, but you know... christmas, holidays, vacation, things get a bit busy on these days.

And the Tampa Bay Lightning kept busy last game achieving its 5 streak winning game with a 6-1 victory against the Panthers in Sunrise.

Sean Bergenheim scored a power play goal and gave the Panthers the lead, but about 20 seconds later #17 Alex Killorn tied up the match and the 1st period ended like that.

The second period started with a Lightning massacre! At 3:22 #9 Tyler Johnson tipped in a #77 Victor Hedman's assist. At 8:01 #51 Valteri Filppula now tipped in a #16 Teddy Purcell's assist and at 12:07 #26 Martin St. Louis with a slapshot scored the 4-1 for the Lightnings.

In the 3rd period # 23 J. Brown scored twice, first with a wristshot and later he tipped in the assistance from #56 Nikita Kucherov and settled the score.

The Tampa Bay Lightning now reached 49 points, standing on the 2nd position in the Eastern Atlantic Division. The next game will be on saturday, 12/28 against the Canadiens at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. It promises to be a great match! LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

FELIZ NATAL!!!

E eu sei que para os fãs do Tampa Bay Lightning é de fato um feliz natal! Me desculpem pela demora deste post, mas vocês sabem... natal, feriado, férias, as coisas ficam um pouco confusas nesses dias.

E o Tampa bay Lightning se manteve ocupado no último jogo, conseguindo sua 5ª vitória consecutiva com uma vitória de 6-1 contra os Panthers em Sunrise.

Sean Bergenheim marcou um gol em power play e deu aos Panthers a liderança, mas cerca de 20 segundos mais tarde o #17 Alex Killorn empatou a partida e o primeiro período terminou assim.

O segundo período começou com um massacre do Lightning! Aos 3:22 o #9 Tyler Johnson empurrou a assistência do #77 Victor Hedman para dentro das redes. Aos 8:01 foi o #51 Valteri Filppula quem completou a assistência do #16 Teddy Purcell e aos 12:07 o #26 Martin St. Louis marcou o quarto gol dos Lightnings com um slapshot.

No 3º período #23 J. Brown marcou duas vezes, primeiro com um wristshot e depois ele completou a assistência do #56 Nikita Kucherov e definiu o placar.

O Tampa Bay Lightning alcançou agora os 49 pontos, se mantendo na segunda colocação na divisão Atlântico Leste. O próximo jogo será no sábado 28/12 contra os Canadiens no Tampa Bay Times Forum. Promete ser uma grande partida! LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

Hurricanes @ Lightning Highlights 12/21/13

Yesterday the Tampa Bay Lightning won its 22nd victory at Tampa Bay Times Forum against the Carolina Hurricanes by 2-3.

The Hurricanes started leading by a wrist shot from Jiri Tlusty with 4:35 in the 1st period. But as time passed by the Bolts got in the game and tied up the match also with a wrist shot from #77 Victor Hedman.

After saving 18 out of 19 shots the goallie J Peters could see the Carolina Hurricanes take the lead once again with another wrist shot goal from Jiri Tlusty at 10:11 in the 2nd period. The massacre continued, but the Bolts couldn't reach the goal in the 2nd period.

The third period would be decisive for the TB Lightning, and coach Jon Cooper knew it. So the order was... SHOOT! And they did! 17 shots against 8 from the Carolina team guaranteed the draw in regular time, when #26 Martin St. Louis scored with 7:56 in the 3rd period.

The overtime had one shot for each side, but after a big hit on his opponent, #7 Radko Gudas scored with a really strong slap shot! The bolts achived its 4th win in a row and now are going to play at Panthers on monday, 23rd.

Ontem o Tampa Bay Lightning venceu sua vigésima segunda vitória contra o Carolina Hurricanes por 3-2 no Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Os Hurricanes começaram vencendo com um wrist shot de Jiri Tlusty com 4:35 no primeiro período. Mas conforme o tempo passou os Bolts entraram no jogo e empataram a partida também com um wrist shot do #77 Victor Hedman.

Depois de salvar 18 dos 19 tiros do Tampa Bay no 1º período, o goleiro dos Hurricanes pode ver seu time novamente na liderança com outro gol de wrist shot de Jiri Tlusty aos 10:11 do 2º período. O massacre continuou, mas os Bolts não puderam alcançar o empate no segundo período.

O 3º período seria decisivo para o TB Lightning e o técnico Jon Cooper sabia disso. Então a ordem foi... ATIREM! E eles atiraram! 17 tiros, contra 8 do time de Carolina garantiram o empate no tempo normal quando o #26 Matin St. Louis marcou com 7:56 no 3º período.

O Overtime teve 1 tiro para cada lado, mas depois de uma grande pancada no adversário, o #7 Radko Gudas marcou com um slap shot muito forte! Os Bolts conseguiram sua 4ª vitória consecutiva e jogarão contra os Panthers na segunda-feira, dia 23.

Tipos de tiro no Hockey / Kinds of shots on Hockey

Como muitos devem imaginar, aqui no Brasil é difícil termos acesso a esportes menos praticados aqui, principalmente um que envolve um rinque de patinação como o Hockey. Como o foco é sempre no futebol, fica difícil conhecermos todo o vocabulário do esporte. Por isso, resolvi fazer esta postagem com os tipos de tiro a gol que existem no Hockey.

Chega a ser até óbvio que um tiro no Hockey é uma tentativa de um jogador de fazer um gol. Isso pode ser feita de várias maneiras. Vejamos 3 delas:

1. Shovel - O shovel é simplesmente o tiro com o movimento levando o puck (disco) ao gol. Sem truques, um tiro simples;
2.  Wrist Shot - É quando o puck é impulsionado em direção ao gol pelo "calcanhar" do taco e o movimento de giro das mãos com o taco fazem o puck girar;
3. Slap shot - É o mais difícil e mais "telegrafado" tipo de tiro, onde o jogador deve levantar o taco na altura do ombro ou mais alto e no momento da batida com o taco,  colocando um pouco do peso em cima do taco, causando um efeito como se fosse de uma mola, impulsionando o puck numa velocidade muito grande.

Como explicar digitando é bem mais difícil, temos alguns vídeos abaixo que demonstram esses tipos de tiros. No fim ainda tem um passo-a-passo de como fazer um Wrist shot do site howtohockey.com. Divirtam-se!

As many of you can imagine, it's a little more difficult to have access to sports that aren't that practiced here in Brazil as Hockey for instance. The focus is always on soccer and it's hard for us to know all the names and words from the hockey game. That's why I decided to post the kinds of shots from a hockey game, so brazilian readers can get used to the names.

It's pretty obvious that a shot is a goal attempt and it can be done in several ways. Let's see 3 of them:

1. Shovel - It's a simple shot raising the puck to the goal. No tricks, a simple shot;
2. Wrist shot - It's when the puck goes towards the goal, hit by the stick with a spinning movement from the wrist, that makes the puck spin as well;
3. Slap shot - It's the most difficult and telegraphed shot there is, where the player must raise the stick until the same level of his shoulders (or above) and hit the puck putting some weight on the stick and causing a spring effect, that shots the puck in a much higher speed.

Predators @ Lightning Highlights 12/19/13

Yesterday, the Bolts have beaten up the Nashville Predators in a 4-2 victory, where the home team was always with a 2 goals lead.

The victory served as a forecast of what's coming next with the return of some of the injured players like #77 Victor Hedman and #60 J.P. Cote, both defensemen.

The Tampa Bay goals were scored by #17 Alex Killorn, #26 Martin St.Louis, #16 Teddy Purcell and #71 Richard Panik. Craig Smith scored twice for the Nashville Predators.

With this victory the Tampa Bay Lightning passed the Montreal Canadiens in the standings, achieving 45 points with 2 games less than the Quebec team.

The next game will be on the 21st, in Tampa against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ontem, os Bolts bateram os Nashville Predators por 4 a 2, onde o time da casa esteve sempre com uma liderança de 2 gols de diferença.

A vitória serviu como uma previsão do que está por vir com o retorno de alguns jogadores lesionados como o #77 Victor Hedman e o #60 J.P. Cote, ambos defensores.

Os gols do Tampa Bay foram marcados pelo #17 Alex Killorn, #26 Martin St. Louis, #16 Teddy Purcell e o #71 Richard Panik. Craig Smith marcou 2 vezes para os Nashville Predators.

Com a vitória o Tampa Bay Lightning passou o Montreal Canadiens na classificação, alcançando 45 pontos com 2 jogos a menos do que o time de Quebec.

Lightning @ Islanders Highlights 12/17/13

The Tampa Bay Lightning went to New York to play against the Islanders and did not disappoint the Bolts supporters who were there. And I must say my friends, what a game!

The Bolts were slightly better than the Islanders with 13 shots agains 12 from the home team, but the 1st period ended tied without any goals.

In the 2nd period, the Islanders were clearly better and scored with Kyle Okposo in a power play by an interference caused by Radko Gudas against Thomas Vanek. Starting the 3rd period with the lead, the NY Islanders scored once again. After an assistance from Michael Grabner and Josh Bailey, Frans Nielsen scored with a wrist shot with about 9 minutes left to the end of the game.

But the game wasn't decided at all!

With a little less than 3 minutes to go, the Lightning scored with a beautiful wrist shot from Valtteri Filppula. The goal set fire in the game, and motivated the team from Tampa that, defending an empty net, reached the 2nd goal with Valtteri Filppula once again with only (the video is here to prove) 3.8 seconds remaining! An amazing goal that tied up the match.

After a goalless Over Time, the game went to the Shoot Out, and the only thing I could imagine was how mad the Islanders head coach Jack Capuano probably was at that moment. And he would get even more nervous. Valtteri Filppula (yes, he again) and Nikita Kucherov scored for the Bolts in the first 2 rounds of the Shoot Out. In the other hand Thomas Vanek wasted his shot in the first round and only Frans Nielsen scored in the second.

That gave an advantage to the Lightning and in the first shot of the third round, the Lightning victory was settled with an outstanding stop by Bishop.

Now, Tampa Bay Lightning achieves 43 points in the league, being the 3rd place in the Atlantic Eastern Conference. The next game will be against the Nashville Predators in Tampa Bay on this Thursday (12/19).

O Tampa Bay Lightning foi a New York encarar os Islanders e não desapontaram os fãs dos Bolts que estavam lá. E eu devo dizer: que jogo, meus amigos!

Os bolts foram um pouco melhores no 1º período com 13 tiros contra 12 dos Islanders, mas o empate permaneceu até o fim do período sem nenhum gol.

No segundo período os Islanders foram claramente melhores e marcaram com Kyle Okposo num power play causado por uma interferência de Radko Gudas contra Thomas Vanek. Começando o terceiro período com a liderança o NY Islanders marcou mais uma vez. Depois de uma assistência de Michael Grabner e Josh Bailey, Frans Nielsen marcou com um wrist shot com cerca de 9 minutos restantes para o fim do período.

Mas o jogo não estava decidido mesmo!

Com pouco menos de 3 minutos restantes, o Tampa Bay Lightning diminuiu a diferença com um belo wrist shot de Vatteri Filppula. O gol pôs fogo no jogo e motivou o time de tampa que sem seu goleiro chegou ao empate com Valtteri Filppula mais uma vez com apenas (e o vídeo está aqui para provar) 3.8 segundos de jogo restantes. Um incrível gol que empatou a partida.

Depois de um Over Time sem gols o jogo foi para o Shoot Out e a única coisa que eu conseguia pensar era em como o técnico dos Islanders Jack Capuano deveria estar bravo naquele momento. E ele ficaria ainda mais. Valtteri Filppula (sim, ele de novo) e Nikita Kucherov marcaram para os Bolts nas primeiras duas rodadas do Shoot Out. Do outro lado, Thomas Vanek desperdiçou na primeira rodada e apenas Frans Nielsen marcou na segunda.

Isso deu uma vantagem ao Lightning e no primeiro tiro da terceira rodada a vitória do Lightning foi definida com uma defesa incrível de Bishop.

Agora o Tampa Bay Lightning alcançou 43 pontos na liga, sendo o 3º colocado na Eastern Atlantic Conference. O próximo jogo será contra o Nashville Predators em Tampa Bay nesta quinta-feira (19/12).

Lightning @ Red Wings Highlights 12/15/13

Hello, everyone! A cold caught me and I couldn't prepare the game review here at the blog. After a defeat where the Lightning couldn't solve Brodeur in front of the Devil's net, the way seemed complicated against the Red Wings in Detroit, but guess what... WE WON! 3-0 to the Bolts and... well, the video will talk for itself. LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

Olá a todos! Um resfriado me pegou e não pude preparar o comentário do jogo aqui no blog. Depois de uma derrota onde o Lightning não conseguiu passar por Brodeur na meta dos Devil's o caminho parecia complicado contra os Red Wings em Detroit, mas adivinha só... NÓS VENCEMOS! 3-0 para os Bolts e... bem, o video irá falar por si só. LET'S GO LIGHTNING!!!

Red Wings @ Lightning Highlights 12/12/13

In the shoot-out Lightning beats the Red Wings / No shoot-out Lightning vence os Red Wings

It was hard, but they got it! In a game where the energy of Kucherov, the experience of St. Louis and the skills of Bishop appeared during all the three periods, the Tampa Bay Lightning won the shoot-out yesterday and achieved 2 more points in the league.

The Red Wings started leading with a goal of Kyle Quincey right in the first period. The game was very tight but the Red Wings ended the 1st period winning. 1st period that we could see the bright act of Ben Bishop that had a great performance saving Tampa Bay many times.

The second period was equally tight, but this time who scored were the Bolts! Nikita Kucherov, the 20 years old Russian forward scored with an incredible shot that passed right through Jonas Gustavsson with about 9 minutes left to the end of the period, that ended tied.

The game continued with lots of opportunities for both sides and the goalies worked really hard, not letting the puck in. The over time was equally hard and the game went to the shoot-out.

With the 5 first players from each team missing the goal (or the goalies keeping it clean I should say), the responsibility was with Martin St. Louis, that scored and threw the weigh of having to score to Johan Franzen. He missed it!

The Lightning knew this was an important game, that a victory, even in the SO would give them a better place in the standings and the strength needed to go on in the competition. Next game is at New Jersey against the Devils, and be sure... the Lightning will be there!

Foi difícil, mas eles conseguiram! Num jogo onde a experiência de St. Louis, a energia de Kucherov e as habilidades de Bishop apareceram durante os 3 períodos, o Tampa Bay Lightning venceu a disputa no Shoot Out e conseguiu mais dois pontos na liga.

Os Red Wings começaram liderando com um gol de Kyle Quincey logo no primeiro período. O jogo era muito disputado, mas os Red Wings conseguiram terminar o 1º período na frente. Período o qual pudemos ver a brilhante atuação de Ben Bishop que teve uma performance excelente, salvando o Tampa Bay várias vezes.

O segundo período foi igualmente disputado, mas dessa vez quem marcou foram os Bolts! Nikita Kucherov, o jovem russo de 20 anos marcou com um tiro incrível que passou direto por Jonas Gustavsson, com cerca de 9 minutos restantes para o fim do período, que acabou empatado.

O jogo continuou com muitas oportunidades para ambos os lados e os goleiros trabalhara muito, não deixando o puck entrar. O Over Time também foi difícil e assim o jogo foi para o Shoot Out.

Com os 5 primeiros jogadores de cada time perdendo o gol (ou os goleiros fazendo sua parte eu devo dizer) a responsabilidade estava com Martin St. Louis que marcou e jogou o peso de ter que marcar para Johan Franzen. Ele perdeu!

O Lightning sabia que esse era um jogo importante, que uma vitória, mesmo no Shoot Out daria para eles um melhor lugar na tabela de classificação e a força necessária para continuar na competição. O próximo jogo é em New Jersey contra os Devils, e esteja certo... o Lightning estará lá!

Lightning @ Capitals Highlights 12/10/13

Injuries get in the way and Bolts lose in Washington / Lesões atrapalham e Bolts perdem em Washington

Hi, today I start talking about the Tampa Bay Lightning from NHL.

Tampa Bay started the season with many critics from the press, mainly because of its defense. The team suffered in the last seasons with regular, but not great results, but they proved the press was wrong, came through in the league and achieved a good performance. Well, at least until #91 Steven Stamkos broke his leg against the Bruins in November 11th.

Since then the team did not get very good results, not only because of Stamkos injury, but also because of Victor Hedman, Ryan Malone and Eric Brewer injuries that made the Bolts put younger players from the Syracuse Crunch (from AHL) on the ice.

Yesterday the game in Wasinhgton D.C. was decided in the shoot-out after a 5-5 tie. The Tampa Bay were leading the game by 3 goals diference, but couldn't hold the advantage and ended the 3rd period with 5-5. In the shoot-out the Capitals won.

It seems that Jon Cooper will have to hold on the pressure and work more with the Bolts youngsters so the team might get a better result agains Detroit Red Wings, a really important game to leave the Wild Card stand and be among the ones who are going to qualify right through.

Olá! Hoje começo a postar sobre o Tampa Bay Lightning, time de Hockey da NHL (National Hockey League).

O Tampa Bay esse ano entrou na liga com uma desconfiança muito grande dos críticos devido ao seu setor defensivo. O time veio sofrendo das últimas temporadas com resultados fracos, mas não desapontou  e conseguiu superar as dificuldades na liga com bons resultados em sequência, até que Steven Stamkos quebrou a perna em um jogo contra o Boston Bruins em 11 de Novembro. 

O time vem sofrendo muito com as lesões, não somente de Stamkos, mas também de outros jogadores experientes como Ryan Malone, Victor Hedman e Eric Brewer (que retornou há pouco). Isso tem feito com que garotos ainda sem experiência do time de base da AHL ligado aos Bolts, o Syracuse Crunch, subissem para o time do Tampa Bay Lightning.

De lá para cá, o time teve uma performance regular com 5 vitórias, 5 derrotas e 3 decisões no Over Time (prorrogação). Ontem (10/12/13) a decisão do jogo contra o Washington Capitals foi para o Shoot Out após um jogaço onde o Tampa Bay conseguiu abrir 3 gols de vantagem, mas não conseguiu se manter na frente. Durante o tempo regulamentar o jogo terminou em 5-5 e no shoot-out os Capitals levaram a melhor.

Parece que o treinador Jon Cooper vai ter que aguentar a pressão e trabalhar mais com a molecada dos Bolts para conseguir um resultado melhor na quinta-feira, contra o Detroit Red Wings, jogo importantíssimo para sair do Wild Card (Repescagem) e ficar entre os que se classificam diretamente.
